TREATMENT FOR MAL-ALIGNED TEETH

Braces

Orthodontic treatment (Braces) will straighten your teeth or move them to a better position. This not only improves their appearance and the way the teeth bite together but can also make them easier to clean.

What is a good age for braces?

Traditionally, braces treatment was performed when a child has lost most of his/her baby(primary) teeth, majority of the adult (permanent) teeth are grown, usually between 9 to 14 years of age. But with the recent advances and clear aligners, orthodontic treatment can be performed at any age if the supporting gums and bone is in good health.

Types of braces
  • Regular metallic braces
  • Self-ligating braces
  • Lingual braces

  • Ceramic braces
What happens in braces treatment?

At Root 32 our braces specialist will evaluate the mal alignment of your teeth and make use of your full mouth X-ray and profile X-rays for proper diagnosis. Pre-treatment photographs are taken and models are made for the record in the first appointment. After the detailed evaluation of the models and x-rays the treatment plan and duration is explained to the patient. The best suitable braces for your condition is decided by a detailed discussion between the doctor and the patient.

What is the average treatment duration for braces?

The duration of the braces treatment can vary from few months (4 to 6) up to 2 years depending upon the severity of mal alignment.

Is there any age limit for wearing braces?

Simply put there is no age limit for someone to get braces. There is a high number of patients fitted with dental braces every day over the age of 18 years. You can still be fitted with dental braces as an adult, provided that you have a healthy set of teeth and a normal jaw bone. Most adults do not have to wear braces any longer than an adolescent would, in order to correct misalignments. Studies have found that correcting adult teeth using braces is often just as successful when compared to their younger counterparts. The high success rate is driven by the fact that adults tend to be more compliant to the advice and instructions of their dentists, orthodontists, and other medical professionals. Generally, adults looking to get braces also exercise more consistent oral hygiene than those who do not value a healthy smile.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners also called invisible aligners uses transparent thin plastic trays to straighten your teeth without braces or wires. The aligners are so thin that none can tell that you are wearing them. After your first consultation our specialist will perform the 3D scan to record to record the position and shape of your teeth, following which a virtual video will be shared with you with a detailed treatment plan and duration.

Once you approve the treatment plan the aligners will be fabricated and delivered to you.

Each pair of aligners should be worn for 22 hours in a day, removing them only to eat, drink, brush and floss. Desired movement of the teeth happens with the help of each set and when you replace them with the next set the teeth will move little by little, till they reach the final desired position.

The average duration of treatment is about 9 to 15 months. The advantage of the aligners is that it helps to maintain the oral hygiene and let you enjoy your food as they are removable.
